SR-22 Insurance Requirement Laws NH
New Hampshire does not currently require its drivers to carry mandatory automobile insurance. However, the state does strongly recommend its residents have insurance for their own protection and the protection of other drivers on New Hampshire roads. This is the status quo if you have never been convicted of a vehicle crime. If you have, then the state can and will require you to get insurance and they can also mandate how long you must carry adequate insurance.
Who is Required to Have Insurance?
SR-22 insurance refers the mandate for those who have been convicted of certain crimes. If you have been convicted of DWI in NH, you will typically need to carry insurance for a period of three years, if it is your first offense. If it is your second offense, the state can mandate you have insurance for a longer period. If you have had too many demerit points on your driving record and have lost your license, you will need to get SR-22 insurance before regaining your license. Also, if you are at fault for an accident and are uninsured at the time, you may have to pay for SR-22 insurance for three years. Other driving offenses or issues can lead to a requirement for SR-22 insurance. They include leaving the scene of an accident, conduct after an accident, underage DWI, and a second offense for reckless operation of a vehicle.
Why Seek Legal Help?
If you are facing license suspension or your license suspension is almost finished, SR-22 insurance laws can and will affect your driving privileges. The mandate to carry SR-22 may prevent you from getting your license when you should legally be able to. The time required to carry SR-22 may be particularly extreme considering the offense, or you may find SR-22 insurance to be a difficult financial strain. Even if your case seems cut and dry and you feel at ease with the SR-22 insurance mandate you have been handed down, having an aggressive attorney who has your best interests in mind is essential. The need for legal representation to be sure you are getting fair and just treatment from the state of New Hampshire is paramount. To ensure your time without a license and the financial strain that often comes with SR-22 insurance requirements is kept to a minimum, let Paul Garrity take the reins and get the best possible outcome for your unique case.
